Ocean Valley
The Øresund region has a unique opportunity. On both sides of the sea, there are strong energy systems, industrial players, ports, utilities, and knowledge environments—and a growing need for solutions that can handle CO₂ in a smart and responsible way. In this context, CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage) plays a central role.
The Ocean Valley project brings together Danish and Swedish stakeholders around a shared ambition: to make the Øresund Region a place where CCUS is not only discussed but actively developed, tested, and implemented in practice.
Aligning CCUS Around a Shared Regional Direction
Ocean Valley is a multi-year collaborative initiative, supported by dedicated funding, that brings together key stakeholders working on CCUS in the Øresund Region. The funding enables partners to move beyond isolated initiatives and adopt a strategic, coordinated approach to CO₂ capture, use, and storage as part of the green transition.
The project builds on a shared recognition: significant activities are already underway, but efforts remain fragmented. Ocean Valley aims to create alignment, coherence, and long-term direction.
Project Purpose
The purpose of Ocean Valley is to establish a shared framework for collaboration on CCUS — not as a single facility or a predefined technical solution, but as a structured process through which stakeholders can build shared understanding, trust, and concrete project opportunities.
The project will establish a CCUS Center of Excellence in the Øresund Region. The Center is not a physical building, but a long-term collaborative platform where companies, public authorities, and research institutions can engage around concrete challenges and development opportunities.
The aim is to create clarity, strategic direction, and coordination by:
-
Connecting stakeholders across the entire CCUS value chain
-
Building shared insight into market conditions, regulatory frameworks, and technological developments
-
Facilitating the maturation of new partnerships and project initiatives
-
Strengthening the region’s position as an attractive hub for CCUS investment and innovation
What Will the Project Achieve?
Ocean Valley seeks to create a stronger and more coherent foundation for CCUS development in the region. The focus is not on short-term fixes, but on enabling long-term progress by:
-
Making it easier for stakeholders to identify relevant partners and collaborate
-
Providing a clearer overview of value chains, opportunities, and barriers
-
Strengthening dialogue between companies, public authorities, and investors
-
Supporting the development of biogenic CO₂ as a viable resource in the future energy system
The work will be carried out through joint analyses, structured dialogue, workshops, and the development of a shared narrative outlining the region’s ambitions and direction.
Who Is the Project For?
The project is particularly relevant for:
-
Companies and utilities working with or within the CCUS ecosystem
-
Energy companies, ports, and infrastructure operators
-
Research institutions and innovation environments
-
Public authorities and decision-makers
Project results will be shared openly to enable others to use them as a foundation for new initiatives and investments.
