LogiCCS
This project aims to develop sustainable, energy-efficient maritime logistics for transporting carbon dioxide (CO2) captured from high-emission industries in the Nordic and Baltic countries, with emphasis on Sweden, Latvia, Norway and Denmark.
The project evaluates logistical challenges and proposes optimized, cost-effective, and environmentally sound solutions for CO2 transport and storage. The project also addresses ship-based carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure, including design specifications for CO2 tankers, fleet optimization, and regulatory analysis. The project will assess viable CO2 storage options, fleet configurations, and ship
designs tailored to the specific needs of Northern Europe, particularly for BSR.
Key objectives: include minimizing transport costs, improving CO2 storage logistics, reducing environmental impacts, and integrating zero-emission ship technology. By examining pressure and temperature conditions for CO2 transport, the project seeks to maximize cost-efficiency and cargo capacity.
Additionally, it will develop a sustainability framework for CCS logistics, focusing on carbon intensity, energy use, and socio-economic impacts. The project aligns with Call Module CM2024-04, addressing cost- and energy-efficiency across CCS value chains, fostering ship design innovation, and strengthening CCS market viability through sustainable business models.
By enhancing Northern Europe’s CCS infrastructure, this project supports the EU’s climate goals and the European Green Deal’s target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050.
This research was funded by the CETPartnership, under the Joint Call 2024. The CETPartnership’ s research projects are co-funded by the European Commission
